The Member of Parliament for Madina Constituency, Francis-Xavier Sosu, has lambasted government for failing to fulfill its promise of making recruitment forms into the security services free.

According to the legislator who doubles as a human rights activist, “it is sad to note that recruitment forms into various security agencies are still being sold for GH¢100 or more, depending on the security agency, after almost five years in office of an NPP Administration”.

“What happened to the free recruitment forms promised by the NPP?”, the private legal practitioner further questioned.

It will be recalled that Sammi Awuku, the former National Youth Organiser of the then opposition New Patriotic Party, described the sale of recruitment vouchers to Ghanaian youth seeking to join the nation’s security agencies as heartless and a form of extortion during the lead up to the 2016 General Elections.

Mr. Francis Xavier Sosu recounted that Sammi Awuku while addressing youth rallies in Bawku and Pusiga Constituencies in 2016 said that “during the NPP regime and at the time we were exiting power, we never sold forms for the security services, Nana Akufo Addo is saying Ghanaian youth who are loyal, dedicated and motivated by love for the country who want to serve Ghana, will not be required to pay GH¢100 for any forms as it recently happened with the police, furthermore one is asked to pay GHS200 to sit the entrance exams, out of the over 20,000 people who bought the forms the Police administration admits only 1,500 people”.

A Nana Akufo Addo Presidency will ensure that these application forms are not sold.”

While blaming the NPP administration for gross incompetence and poor governance, the Madina MP is encouraging government to create a portal that will allow the youth unable to apply freely, whilst those who have already purchased forms must be given a refund of their application fees.

Though Mr. Sosu believes the current regime is exploitative and puts too much pressure on the youth searching for jobs, he opined that the promise by the NPP if kept would reduce such pressures, and provide the Youth with opportunities, despite current economic hardships and setbacks.
