COVID-19: Death toll hits 1,036 as active cases keep soaring

Ghana’s Covid-19 death toll has currently reached 1,036 according to figures from the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

According to the Service, the active cases now stand at 7,151 while 482 more people are reported to have succumbed to the Coronavirus per August 27 updates on the Covid-19 dashboard.

The country has recorded a total of 119,436 confirmed cases since the inception of the Covid-19 outbreak on March 12, 2020.

Further information reveals that 141 persons out of the total number of cases are in severe condition and 55 people are considered to be in critical situation.

Additionally, one hundred and one thousand, two hundred and forty-nine people have been treated and discharged accordingly.

While all the 16 regions have recorded active cases, Greater Accra leads with 4,816 with Western North coming last with 10 cases.

Currently, the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) has tested 450,159 international travelers coming through Ghana’s air borders.

Out of this figure, 2,635 tested positive with a positivity rate of 0.6.

Meanwhile, administration of the second dose of AstraZeneca vaccines took effect on August 31, 2021.

Angelonline.com.gh earlier reported that a communique from the Greater Accra Region Health Directorate indicated that “persons, 18 years and above who received their first dose from 10th March to 29 March, 2021” would be vaccinated.

The vaccines, according to the Greater Accra Regional health directorate would be administered among twenty-nine (29) districts in the nation’s capital on August ending till September 4.
