The church of Dr. Isaac Owusu-Bempah, Glorious Word Power Ministries International (GWPMI), has apologised to Journalists assaulted at the premises of the Circuit Court in Accra on Monday September 13, 2021.
On the stated date, journalists present at the premises of the court and filming proceedings relating to Apostle Isaac Bempah’s arraignment were attacked by some men alleged to be sympathisers of the Reverend.
In a statement issued on September 15, 2021 the church acknowledged that the assault on the journalists was reprehensible and hence condemned it.
“Glorious Word Power Ministries International has learnt with regret an attack on some journalists reportedly meted out by some people believed to be sympathisers of Apostle Dr. Isaac Owusu Bempah at the premises of the Circuit Court, Accra on 13th September 2021.
“We humbly wish to indicate that as a church we don’t support any form of violence,” the statement partly read.
The GWPMI consequently apologised to all affected persons and institutions saying “The Church would like to render an unqualified apology to all affected Journalists, Media Houses, and the Ghana Journalists Association.”
“We acknowledge the key role the media plays in society and as such we pledge our full cooperation and support in ensuring that this incident does not repeat.
“We plead with affected media organizations and journalists to kindly accept our apology” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Police have stated in a communique in reaction to the assault that investigations are ongoing to identify the assailants to bring them to book.
“The team is currently studying the footage of the alleged assault of some of the journalists to identify the alleged perpetrators for immediate prosecution.”
