The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has revealed that the certified figures of Ghana’s total population will be made available in November, 2021 after all data have been fully collated.

The disclosure follows the release of the Service’s provisional figures from the year’s Population and Housing Census (PHC), which puts the country’s current population at 30.8 million.

Speaking on Angel FM’s Anopa Bↄfoↄ morning show following the release of the provisional figures, Assistant Chief Statistician of the GSS, Johnson Owusu Kagya, noted that the 30.8m population figure does not only constitute Ghanaian indigenes but all persons in the country during the exercise.

“…we did not exclude anyone from the counting. The 30.8million we are talking about are not only Ghanaians. It includes Ghanaians and foreigners who were present in the country as at the census night, June 27, 2021.

“So the November report that will come out will help us with the breakdown of the exact Ghanaians who were in the country and foreigners during the exercise because we count everyone on census night,” he told the host, Kofi Adoma Nwanwani.

The acting Director for the Communication and Dissemination Directorate (CDD) at the GSS added that, with the implementation of technology into this year’s exercise using the Computer-assisted personal interviewing (CAPI) compared to the Pen-and-paper interviews (PAPI) used in 2010, the GSS will be able to gather more data.

Mr. Owusu stressed that, the breakdown will also give provision of ethnic groups in the country.

He called on Ghanaians to, however, be more concerned in the employed population figure when the final database is out rather than being interested in the unemployed figure.
