The outgoing Chief Executive of Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region, Kojo Ofori-Sarfo, has condemned the violent protest undertaken at Akyem Apedwa over the nomination of Akosua Asabea Annah for the position.
According to Mr. Ofori Sarfo in a statement issued on September 22, 2021, the action by the New Patriotic Party faithful in the municipality, was reprehensible to him, because he does not believe in “violence as a means of political redress.’’
The MCE, while urging the angry youth to remain calm and desist from the violent act, called for their cooperation to help the new nominee to bring the President’s vision for the assembly and the entire Ghanaian community to bear.
He said: Your Excellency the President reserves the right to appoint or nominate individuals to serve in his government. As a result, it is incumbent upon all to respect his decision and lend our unwavering support to all nominees in order to carry out their mandate.”
Mr. Ofori however was appreciative of the opportunity given him by Nana Akufo-Addo to serve under his administration as the MCE for the Abuakwa assemble.
Background
It would be recalled that on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 some NPP faithfuls in Apedwa cladded in red bands, took to the streets in protest against the nomination of Akosua Asabea Annah as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Abuakwa South in the Eastern Region.
Their placards had inscriptions like as “President Nana Addo you have disappointed Apedwa”, “We need Hon. Kwadwo Sarfo, Omyehene cannot decide for us”, among others.
They however with much agitation moved to lock the party’s office and set ablaze the party’s flag.
