The three-member committee set up by the Minister for Interior, Ambrose Derry, to investigate circumstances that led to the chaos that occurred at Ejura in the Sekyeredumasi Municiplaity of the Ashanti Region has made 10 recommendations to the government on its findings.

In its report, released by the Ministry of Information, the Committee among the 10 recommendations, advised that the government transfers, with immediate effect, the District Commander of the area.

The Committee, chaired by George Kingsley Koomson, noted that the Commander is incompetent and has bad relationship with the members of the community, hence his removal.

“The Committee recommends the immediate transfer of the District Police Commander of Ejura, DSP Philip Kojo Hamond, first for his incompetence in handing the situation and for the fact, his relationship with the community seems to have been damaged beyond repairs,” the committee stated.

The committee as part of its recommendation also advised that the Municipal Chief Executive of the area, Mohammed Salisu, Bamba be removed immediately since “his continuous stay in the municipality would exacerbate the already tensed security situation in Ejura.”

It would however be recalled that on matters relating to Salisu Bamba, he had withdrawn from the race for Municipal Chief Executive for Ejura following the disturbances which led to the death of two young men, Abdul Nassir Yussif and Muntala Mohammed.

In a letter dated July 9, 2021 and addressed to the Ashanti Regional Minister to the Vetting Committee of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, he said he arrived at the decision for the “peace and the general unity and growth of the NPP”, adding “I have always worked in the service of my party and country and it is in that spirit that I am withdrawing myself for consideration.”
