The Queen mother of Amokwaw in the Jomoro district of the Western Region, has called on President Akufo-Addo to ensure that the youth are given job opportunities in the establishment of a petroleum industry within the municipality.
Obaahema Mozuma I, citing Ghana Gas as an antecedent event, disclosed that the youth are not engaged when the government establishes businesses within the area. As a result, the new project which is expected to kick start in the municipality should involve the youth.
“When Ghana Gas came, we were not engaged” she said, adding “no one even educated us on what the work of the industry was about. When the project starts [Petroleum hub project] the youth should be engaged.
“We have able persons who can provide certain assistance in the industry. So we the traditional leaders of Nzema will commit the situation to prayers to bring victory into the work to help all Ghanaians.”
She remarked when the newly confirmed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Jomoro, Louisa Iris Arde, paid a courtesy call on the chiefs after a thanksgiving ceremony was held for her following her appointment as the first female for the position.
Madam Louisa on her part said the chiefs, stakeholders and the general public have a role to play to ensure that the project is successfully executed to benefit Jomoro and Ghanaians at large.
“We should prepare ourselves for the incoming opportunity so that our youth who are not getting a job to do will also get job, and it is my headache to work towards it” the MCE added
She assured the chiefs and people of Jomoro that government and her leadership will do well to ensure that their plea is heeded to.
About the Petroleum Hub project
The project is one that will accommodate a refinery to process crude oil into various petroleum products, and manufacturing plants for the processing of fertiliser from the by-products of oil.
The hub which will occupy a land space of about 20000 acres, would have four refineries each, with a capacity of 150000 bpd, two oil jetties, storage tanks for crude and two petrochemical plants.
It is expected to accelerate the growth of Ghana’s petroleum downstream sub-sector and make it a major player in the economy and consequently ensure development of sustainable value, wealth creation and the progress of the industry.
The project, which is a private sector led initiative, is expected to be completed by 2030.
