The Ghana Education Service is set to introduce Deans of Discipline in all Junior and Senior High Schools in the country, to intensify positive attitudes among students, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Service has disclosed.

The disclosure comes on the back of the alleged stabbing incident which is reported to have occurred at Konongo Odumase Senior High School in the Ashanti Region.

Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service is embarking on an educational transformation agenda to make students critical thinkers, problem solvers and assertive in all spheres of their lives.

This is through an approach termed as “STEM”−Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

Mr. Kwasi Kwarteng, the PRO, said that goal to change the narrative about the educational system in the country cannot be achieved if the students are not disciplined.

He said in every professional career the students may pursue, there would be some level of discipline required of them to achieve set targets as well as in the struggle to reach the acme of their careers.

As a result, Deans of Discipline would be introduced in the schools to ensure students are conditioned for a productive and responsible future.

The PRO said “teachers would elect from amongst the staff two people who are strict, bold, compassion and can communicate well with students as Deans of Discipline, to instil some discipline in them.

He noted that the Ghana Education Service would train these teachers in regards to approaches to the disciplinary actions to ensure that the students are imparted with the right attitudes.
