The five students allegedly involved in the stabbing to death of a student at the Konogo Odumase SHS on Friday, November 5, 2021 have been remanded into a Juvenile Detention Center at Juaso in the Asante Akim South Municipality.
The suspected teenagers were remanded for one week by the Konongo District Court, in the Ashanti Region when they appeared before it for the first time.
Lawyer for the accused, Richard Adu Darko, noted that he pleaded for bail based on the Juvenile Justice Act but his plea was denied by the court.
The court, which was presided over by Her Worship, Joyce Bamfo, however granted the police’s request to remand the accused persons on grounds that the police are still investigating the matter.
According to the Lawyer, the accused students and their parents by their demeanor are remorseful for their action and are expected to reappear before the court on Monday, November 15, 2021.
Mr. Richard Adu Darko noted that the first accused has been charged with murder, while the remaining four are facing charges of abetment to commit a crime.
While noting that it is unfortunate for students aged 16-years and 17-years to commit such crimes, he also stressed that the charges slapped on the accused are provisional.
The court has referred the matter to the supervising High Court to ensure that the right processes are followed because of their ages, Mr. Darko told journalists after proceedings.
On his part, the Konongo Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Shaibu Osei Abubakar Sadik, told the media that the police are doing their best to conclude all investigations within the stipulated time of six months for the trial to be completed.
17-year-old Samuna Larhan was stabbed to death by some Form Two students with a concealed knife while attempting to rescue his mates from being bullied.
He was rushed to the Konongo Government Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival after losing so much blood.
“Preliminary investigations indicates that the suspects, who are form Two students of the above-mentioned school, went on a bullying spree on the night of Friday November 5, after prep hours leading to the attack on the deceased, Samuna Larhan, aged 17”, a statement signed by ACP Kwesi Ofori stated.
