Sports Ministry, PFAG commend Black Stars after win over South Africa

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has congratulated the Black Stars after they beat South Africa on Sunday to seal qualification to the playoff stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Skipper, Andre Ayew scored a 33rd-minute penalty to give the Black Stars a 1-0 victory as they finished as leaders in Group G with 13 points ahead of South Africa who had the same 13 points but with a lesser goal difference.

Following the victory, the Ministry of Youth and Sports took to Twitter to congratulate the entire playing body of the black stars for making the country proud.

“Congratulations to the senior National Team, the Black Stars for making the Nation proud by qualifying to the playoffs of the FIFA 2022 World cup qualifiers”, it said.

They also to thank Ghanaians for exhibiting a sense of patriotism in rallying behind the team.

“We Express appreciation to all Ghanaians for throwing their unflinching support behind the team and showcasing the spirit of nationalism,” the ministry said.

In a similar development, the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana- PFAG also wasted no time as they applauded the team for their hard-fought win to secure a place in next year’s final playoffs.

With the updated FIFA regulations regarding the qualifications series, Ghana had the nod over the South Africans despite finishing on the same points plus 4 goals each. They qualified based on the highest number of goals scored, 7 as against Bafana Bafana’s 6.

The playoffs among 10 countries, which will determine the five teams to represent Africa in Qatar, is scheduled for March 2022 in home-and-away affairs.
