The former of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Mr. Kojo Bonsu, spent the national Farmers’ Day holiday with Obom, Ashalaja and Domeabra communities all within the Ga South electoral Area.

In a small durbar organized by the chiefs, elders and people of the area, the former Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) boss used the opportunity to solidarize and solicit the concerns and needs of the people.

Mr Bonsu said, “It is important that stakeholders like myself help to bring to the nation’s attention more awareness of your efforts and also to be sensitized on the challenges you face.

“It is a well-known fact that you are the greatest constituency of Ghanaians when it comes to a work force.Often your skills are over looked because we only relate knowledge to the office setting where there is air conditioning and we do not appreciate the kind of indigenous knowledge you have preserved which makes it possible for you to manage the land in a productive manner.”

Speaking on behalf of the communities was Elder Dzimi Avi, who outlined the challenges of the people which included lack of potable drinking water, lack of hospital facilities, poor road network, no electrical connectivity and little support from government to farmers within the area.

In response to their numerous challenges, Mr Bonsu assured them that he was going to do everything possible within his means as a stakeholder to be of useful assistance.

He remarked, “I cannot come all the way here and not commend the women amongst you who play a double role. You are farmers during the day and our mothers and wives in the evening. Looking after children, preparing them for school, cooking for the family and still maintaining a farm is a great achievement that you make look so easy.”

As part of his visit, he donated several food items, cutlasses and an undisclosed amount of money to support community projects.

The Assembly Member for the electoral area, Mr Ebenezer Ahutor, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the people to Mr Kojo Bonsu for choosing to celebrate the national holiday with their communities and also for engaging them on their concerns.

Mr Bonsu responded that as a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the party with it’s social democratic philosophy would respond to their concerns once the people of Ghana are given the next chance to choose who to govern this nation.

He said that “you are our people, our strength, we have faith in you”.
