The Ghana Police Service has been thrown into a state of mourning after gun-wielding robbers shot dead two police officers of the Bolgatanaga East police department.

The unfortunate incident happened on Wednesday December 15, 2021 at Zuarungu, the capital of Bolgatanga East District in the Upper East Region.
According to eyewitnesses, at about 7:45pm, the two suspects entered the Zuarungu market square where they were robbing a popular provision shop known as ‘Baba Store’.
The robbers upon seeing the police officers on patrol duties on their way out of the shop after the robbery, immediately fired at the officers who had stopped by a food vendor to by food opposite the mini-supermarket.
They shot at the petrol tank of the motorbike in possession of the police officers causing it to catch fire, burning the two officers to death in the process.
The bodies of the two officers have been conveyed to the Bolga Hospital morgue by a team of police who immediately rushed to the scene.
Meanwhile, the Police administration in a statement has described the incident as a “Black Wednesday” for the Ghana Police Service and indicated that the two personnel were on night patrols within the Zuarungu Township to safeguard lives when the incident happened.
They have therefore promised to contact the bereaved families to inform them of the development before any other detail can be made public.
