The Food & Drugs Authority (FDA) is collaborating with the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) to combat drug abuse plaguing the nation.
As part of their collaboration, a music video was produced by MUSIGA with a mixed urban setting that depicts different scenes of substance misuse peculiar to communities in the country.
The song features some of the top artistes of the day, including Kuami Eugene, Article Wan, Bogo Blay, Eno Barony, Yaa Yaa, Amerado and a host of singers.
According to the FDA, the music-video set to be released within the week is a nationwide campaign that requires a collective effort to enable place emphasis on tobacco, tramadol and the corresponding social enablers.
Chief Executive Officer of FDA, Mrs Delese Mimi Darko, said in a statement that the campaign is part of the authorities “comprehensive strategy to sensitize the public on substance abuse.”
The menace among the youth in the country, the statement added, is dire as it poses risks including “diminished immune system, infectious disease, cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal issues and untimely death.”
In this regard, Mrs Darko said their move is a vast interventions and regulatory actions aimed at “extenuating drug misuse and tobacco use” to ensure the responsible use of controlled medicines.
Touching more on the class of people targeted to fight against the canker the statement said, “It has targeted predominantly at the youthful population in Ghana and intent on creating a more acceptable and assessable means of public sensitization to prevent abuse and diversion from licit to illicit use”.
