Landlord locks up health centre for nonpayment of rent

The landlord of a building occupied by the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly (LMKMA) has locked up the space due to the Assembly’s inability to pay its rent.

The facility, serving as a health center for Asitey, a community in the municipality was locked up on Monday, January 10, 2022.

The over 9 years rented facility owned by a business man comprises of a consulting room, Opd department and a store room.

According to information available to Angelfmonline.com.gh, the landlord, [name witheld] had on several occasions demanded full payment of a three years rent debts owed by the government institution.

The Assembly owing Gh¢3,600 initially made part payment worth Gh¢1,500 leaving Gh¢2,100 as arrears.

However, the landlord who felt unsatisfied with the situation stormed the facility and locked it up with a padlock leaving staffs of the health center and patience stranded.

Building’s door locked by is owner.

Confirming the matter, the assembly member of Asitey electoral area, Foster Quarshie said he on Monday morning had calls from some nurses of the facility informing him that the place was locked upon their arrival at post.

This he explained that “when I rushed to the facility with the chief of the area and some Health Committee Representatives, we reliase that truly the facility was locked up.

To swiftly intervene in the situation, Mr. Quarshie noted he quickly called the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Health Director, Dr. Bismark Sarkodie where they met the MCE of the area, Simon Kweku Tetteh for a dailouge to amicably resolved the matter.

He added that, a phone call was placed to the landlord where he served them notice that, he unlock the facility for operation only if he had his Gh¢2,100 arrears paid fully.

The Assembly Man used the opportunity to appeal to the government and the Member of Parliament of the Constitutuency, Ebenezer Okletey Ter-Larbi to come to their aid to make sure an ongoing health project in the area is completed for use to avoid any unforeseen circumstances.

He again stated that moving away from the rented apartment to a permanent health facility will save money for the Assembly and to also ease congestion since the place is not spaceous.
