The Ghana Police Service has been commended for their swiftness in containing the violent clash at Nima from escalating.

According to a fraud and security consultant, the activeness of the police indicates that crime prevention is their major priority as a service.

The commendation comes after a deadly clash between some rival youth groups – Kumordzi and Bombon groups – at Nima on Tuesday after a misunderstanding escalated.

Speaking on Angel FM’s Anopa Bofoↄ morning show on Wednesday, January 19, Mr. Richard Kumadoe, stated that the police must be commended for their swift response in containing the said violence.

The security expert took the opportunity to counsel the police to keep monitoring such high intensity areas noted for violence and crimes.

He advised that the police should install more CCTV cameras that would serve as early warning systems for them to quickly avert any form of crime or disturbances.

Additionally, Mr. Kumadoe cautioned the police to ensure persons found culpable face the full rigors of the law to deter others from following suit.

In his view, failure to punish offenders and make arrests would embolden other citizens to engage in brazen acts of violence as witnessed in Tuesday’s deadly clash at Nima.

Touching further on the collaboration between the police and the military in quelling and containing violence, the security consultant said that the presence of soldiers gives leverage to the police to work effectively in such situations.
