A Police officer with the Paga Police Station has been shot dead by some unknown assailants in renewed clashes in Bawku in the Upper East Region.

Reports from the police indicates that Constable Regina Angenu, who paid a visit to a colleague officer, Constable Erasmus Enkson of the Bawku Divisonal Command, was attacked together with her colleague.

During the attack, which is believed to have occurred around 5:00pm when the  two were on their way to Constable Enkson’s barracks, the unknown assailants shot Constable Angenu in the groin.

Constable Region Angenu later passed on at the Presbyterian Mission Hospital while undergoing treatment and her body has been sent to Bolgatanga Regional Hospital for autopsy.

Meanwhile, renewed clashes in the Bawku area has left two other persons dead while eight others have sustained injuries.

Some reports indicates that there were sporadic gunshots in Bawku on Sunday afternoon.

Bawku and its neighbouring towns have been under curfew since December 2021 in view of the insecurity.

The curfew follows a threat of insecurity in the mentioned communities.

A statement signed by the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, said that the curfew takes effect from 4:00pm to 6:00am starting Wednesday November 24,2021.

Subsequently, the Regional security Council also banned pillion riding of motorbikes as well as wearing of smocks for security reasons.

Some Ghanaians have also taken to social media to express their worry about the renewed clashes and tense insecurity within the Bawku Municipality.

Bawku renewed conflict….. We're only managing the situation which keeps revolving.
