The Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has assured his constituents that efforts are being put in place to see to the completion of an ongoing children hospital project in Winneba.

According to the Effutu Constituency Member of Parliament, the project is under the strict supervision of the Effutu Municipal Health Directorate who would ensure that the dream which he termed as a Legacy project, comes through.

“Everything is ready and I want to assure you that this is a big dream and the whole of Central Region, there is none. In fact, in Ghana, we only know of the Marie Children’s Hospital and some other private facilities by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and other individuals. We need a major facility for children in Winneba which will serve Central Region” said the MP.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin believes that when completed the hospital will be a “referral centre for health professionals who are training in the area of child care.”

He revealed that, the Children’s Hospital will be his greatest legacy as a Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency and that he looks forward to completing it by the end this very year.

He made the disclosure when he was addressing the chiefs and people of Dayasaw, a suburb of Winneba during the commissioning of a Health Center he has built.

Director of Health at the Effutu Municipal Health Directorate, Madam Mariatu Seidu, on her part commended the MP for his support to the Directorate towards improving the Health needs of residents in the Winneba communities.

She also encouraged the residents of the community to ensure that they bear with their health workers since the facility is “not a hospital but a health centre.”

“There works here are in levels, if it is beyond the capacity of the service providers here and they refer you to the trauma hospital or the municipal hospital, they should go; it should not be interpreted as though they were incompetent or they have some antipathy towards them,” she added.
