Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association(GFA), Dr. Tonny Aubynn, has said the current problem of the Black stars is lack of proper transitional system.

The Black Stars witnessed a poor performance over the years, especially in the ongoing 2021 AFCON where the team failed to progress from the group stage.

According to him, the improper way of player transition through the rank from the junior levels to the senior level has affected the team over the years.

Speaking to Kofi Adoma Nwanwani on the Anopa Bofo morning show on Angel FM, Dr. Aubynn, believes likewise tennis being an individual sport, football is the opposite which needs transition to enable a team perform.

He then observed that, unlike the past when Ghana had relied on transition in building the Black Stars citing Asamoah Gyan’s batch who were promoted to replace Charles Kwabena Akunnor’s team when the latter left the scene, the current system has taken a different approach.

Thus, the failure to continue following that feat on the transitional stages saw 17 new players in the black stars team at the AFCON who have not gone through the stages.

However, he reiterated that Milovan Rjevac’s squad presented for the AFCON campaign had quality among themselves but putting them together was the problem since they had not played with each other in a long while.

Furthermore, he noted that going into the AFCON tournament, the team gave high expectation in quest to win the trophy but forgot that football has transitioned from reliance on ‘names’ to proper structures.

In light of this, the former Chief Executive Officer of Mineral Commission Chief called for adequate steps to help develop talents to enable the country stay relevant to African football and the world at large.
