A mass burial is being organised for victims of the Appiatse explosion which claimed about 13 lives and left scores of persons injured.

The funeral ceremony took place Friday, March 11, 2022 at the Appiatse Park in the Western Region.

The ceremony consisted of a 15-month-old baby, Ella Baidoo, who will be laid to rest together with five of the twelve adult victims of the explosion disaster.

The five adults to be buried alongside Ella Baidoo include Ekua Nyame, 80; Justice Kwasi Takwa, 21; Emmanuel Quainoo, 29; Isaac Benyin, 45; and 19-year-old Michael Afriyie.

Four out of the 13 were laid rest last weekend, and two others namely; 24-year-old Emmanuel Awingura and Eric Gyimah, 24, will be taken away to their home towns in the coming days for a private burial.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Prestea Huni-Valley, Isaac Dasmani, had earlier told the media that families who preferred to have a private burial for their loved ones would be permitted to do so.

The Appiatse explosion, which occurred on January 20, 2022, destroyed the Appiatse township killing some 13 people with about 59 persons sustaining various degrees of injuries.
