The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) has debunked reports suggesting that, the lighting of the Ghana flag on United Arab Emirates ‘Burj Khalifa’ building came at a cost to country.

According to the GIPC, Ghana did not incur any cost for projecting its flag on the iconic edifice regarded as the tallest building in the World.

The Ghana flag was lit up in its bright colours on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 during the country’s participation in the 2020 Dubai EXPO.

Ghana’s participation was aimed at making a good case for investments in the Ghanaian economy, and also to hold bilateral talks on matters of mutual interest with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

But, following this, there has been claims that Ghana paid a huge amount of money before its flag was displayed on the edifice.

However, the GIPC in a statement on Friday, March 11, 2022 described the allegations as “false” and called on the general pubic to disregard the claims because the flag lighting gesture was done in goodwill to honour “Ghana and President Akufo-Addo.”

“In no uncertain terms, the owner of Emaar Properties, Dubai decided to place our national flag on the Burj Khalifa for free as a gesture of goodwill and to honour Ghana and His Excellency, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, during the Ghana Day Celebration to culminate our participation in the Dubai Expo. We entreat the general public to disregard the allegations” a GIPC statement said.
