A security guard of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) met his untimely death in line of his duty after a Kumasi-based trotro driver and his mate stabbed him with a knife.
The incident is reported to have happened on the afternoon of April 9, 2022.
The deceased, who has been identified as Thomas Amakye Yankey popularly known as ‘Congo Soldier’ was stabbed multiple times on the neck, stomach and other parts of his body resulting in serious degrees of injury.
He was quickly rushed to the Ahwiam Clinic at Adum but was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where he died later.
Confirming the incident on Kumasi-based Otec FM, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of KMA, Madam Henrietta Afia Konadu Aboagye said, preliminary information indicated that the deceased, ‘Congo Soldier’ is said to have prevented the driver and his mate from loading in the middle of the road which resulted in a scuffle.
She added that “the security guard then moved from the particular area known as PZ where he was standing and relocated to closer to the Kejetia Market Phase 1 project, the suspect driver however followed him and renewed their misunderstanding which he end up stabbing the deceased with a knife.
The suspect driver and his mate have since been arrested and are currently in the grips of police assisting investigations.
