Legon Cities stuns Asante Kotoko in Kumasi

Ghana Premier League leaders, Kumasi Asante Kotoko was stunned by Legon Cities to a 3-1 defeat at home at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday in the Ghana Premier League.

The results becomes the fabulous’ second defeat in a row following a 2-1 loss to Real Tamale United last Weekend.

The visitors, through Michel Otoo opened the scoring after he converted a penalty in the 17th minute. This was after Christopher Nettey had brought down Jonah Attuquah in the penalty box.

Ten minutes later, Maxwell Konadu’s side increased their tally, courtesy of a wonderful finish by former Medeama SC and Obuasi AshantiGold player, Hans Kwoffie.

The Porcupine Warriors fought back stronger as Mudasiru Salifu found the back of the net to reduce the deficit for Prosper Ogum’s side before recess.

Back from recess, the Royals regained their two-goal advantage through Hans Kwofie just two minutes into the second half.

Despite the efforts of the hosts, they could not get back into the game and had to succumb to a 3-1 defeat at the end of the 90 minutes.

However, Kumasi Asante Kotoko still lead the table with 52 points, 8 points clear second placed Bechem United who plays Karela United on Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Legon Cities move to 8th position on the league table with 26 matches after the victory.

In other matches, Medeama SC cruised to a 1-0 win at Akoon Park in Tarkwa courtesy of a Vincent Atinga penalty in the 66th minute.

At Dawu, Dreams FC threw away an early lead as King Faisal came from behind to draw 1-1, bringing to an end an eight game losing streak for the latter. Issah Yakubu scored first before Samuel Atta Kusi equalized.

Black Stars player, David Abagna who returned to the starting line-up for Real Tamale United led them to a 1-1 away draw against Elmina Sharks at the Nduom Sports complex.

Victor Oduro gave the Tamale-based side an early lead but it lasted for only 9 minutes as Isaac Donkor replied with an absolute stunner in the 14th minute.

At the DUN’S Park in Bibiani, Bibiani Gold Stars defeated Techiman Eleven Wonders 1-0 following Prince Opoku Agyemang’s 67th minute spot kick.

Berekum Chelsea recorded a 1-0 narrow win in the regional derby against Aduana FC at the Golden City Park. Kelvin Obeng’s 67th minute effort was enough to secure all three points for the Blues.

Earlier on Friday, defending Champions Accra Hearts of Oak produced a 3-0 win against Accra Lions at the Accra Sports stadium.

Daniel Afriyie Barnieh scored brace with substitute Isaac Agyenim Boateng adding one for the Phobians to return to winning ways.

However, Accra Great Olympics on Saturday lost 1-0 to Obuasi AshantiGold following Yaw Annor’s stunner in the 68th minute at Accra Sports Stadium.
