The National Security Council has directed the leadership of religious organisations leadership to enhance their security, especially in places where they congregate.
“In view of the growing threat of terrorism from the sub-region, and the expansionist drive of terrorist groups towards the coastal West African States, with a renewed modus operandi of targeting public gatherings, including places of worship, it is imperative that precautional measures are taken by all stakeholders,” the Council stated in a communication dated May 12, 2022, and signed by Ambassador Major General Francis Adu-Amanfoh (Rtd), the National Security Coordinator.
The religious organisations are therefore urged to, among others, install video surveillance cameras also known as Closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and engage the services of approved private security guards.
Meanwhile, the security apparatus has indicated that it is collaborating with the “relevant state security and intelligence agencies to institute measures to avert terrorist attacks in the country”.
The directive which was served to the leadership of the Muslim religious group, the Chief Imam; Chairman, Christian Council of Ghana; Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference President and the President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, and copied to Inspector General of Police.
