Police in the Upper West regional capital, Wa, have commenced investigations into public flogging of lovers sighted in a viral video engaging in a sexual affair.

The lovers following their amorous relationship, were subjected to beatings in an open area believed to be the forecourt of the Wa overlord’s palace.

Unlike the woman who was fully dressed, the man was stripped leaving him in his underwear, while they were tied in the limps and whipped on their backs, buttocks and legs.

Reacting to the video of the beatings, Chief Superintendent Reynolds Manteaw who is a crime officer, indicated on the Anopa Bofoↄ morning show that the conduct of the floggers was illegal because it was tantamount to instant justice.

According to him, officers were deployed to the scene to effect their arrest but upon reaching the ground, both victims and the floggers could not be found and efforts to get onlookers to provide information about their whereabouts also proved futile.

Meanwhile, the event is reported to have occurred in the absence of the Wa Overlord also known as Yaa Naa.

“Today, we called on the spokesperson for the Yaa Naa and all persons who were in the palace at the time the events took place to help provide information on the happenings.

“We will inquire into the matter and whoever is found culpable would be dealt with according to the laws of the country,” Chief Sup. Reynolds Manteaw said.

On the sex tape, the crime officer noted that they would investigate how the video got leaked into the public space because it is offensive to publish nude contents.

“They sleeping and taking videos of themselves isn’t against the laws because it is a private place, but if it gets out and it is shared, that is what is an offence…and it is what we are going to investigate.”

Chief Superintendent Reynolds Manteaw however took the opportunity to sensitize the public against meting out instant justice to offenders.

“If some flouts a law, you don’t punish the person; you report the person to the police. If the police investigate and finds the person culpable, then they [police] will deal with him according to the law sending him to court for the court to determine whether he is guilty or not.” he advised.
