W/R: Flooding at Bamiako affecting academic activities – Residents lament
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Residents of Bamiako, the traditional capital of Gwira Area in the Nzema East District of the Western Region, are facing the brunt of the recent floods following downpours in the region.

According to residents, the flooding has disrupted academic work as students and teachers struggle to commute to school.

After a downpour, the road leading to the school becomes heavily flooded making it impassable.

The residents also stated that the Gwiraman Senior High School has been closed down due to the flooding situation.

In an interview with Angel News’ Nana Fynn, a teacher of the Gwiraman SHS said, “today the water level is so high that no living organism has been able to cross. It is really disturbing because we’ve got SHS 3 students who are supposed to write exams.”

He added that it has been about ten days now since the main road leading to many communities got flooded, and the situation seems to be getting worse by the day.

“This [flood water] has been here for some time, I remember last two years when we were doing inter-house competition in the school, the same thing happened that prevented some students from crossing to the school,” the tutor lamented.

The Bamiako residents also bemoaned the fact that economic activities have grounded to a halt since vehicles cannot access motorable roads when it’s raining.

Commercial drivers in the area pack their cars since they cannot ply the flooded roads.

The people of Bamiako are therefore calling on government to come to their aid and immediately help resolve the situation for academic work to run smoothly.
