Accra Hearts of Oak demands apology from Albert Commey over match fixing comment

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Accra Hearts of Oak, Kwame Opare Addo, is demanding an apology from Albert Commey for accusing the club of involving in an alleged match-fixing.

According to the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Obuasi-based AshantiGold, the FA Cup champions played a match of convenience with Real Tamale United in the last round of matches in the just-ended season.

Accra Hearts of Oak suffered a 4-1 defeat to the Tamale-based club in their final game of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League at the Accra Sports Stadium.

However, Mr Commey in an interview with Sunyani-based Space FM also alleged that games involving Gold Stars and AshGold, Eleven Wonders and Aduana Stars, and King Faisal and Legon Cities ties were all fixed matches.

He said such actions were taken to ensure some relegation-threatened teams survived.

But, Mr Opare Addo has said Accra Hearts of Oak never engaged in any fixed game as claimed, therefore, Mr Albert Commey must retract the statement and apologize for his comments.

He noted that he has tried reaching Mr Commey since the allegations were made but the former has refused to honour his calls.

“I have tried calling Albert Commey for about 20 times but no answer. Is it because he feels his team (Ashanti Gold SC) is going down so he wants to drag other clubs down?”

“He has to apologize and retract that match-fixing statement,” Opare Addo told Accra-based Asempa FM.
