‘Common sense is finally prevailing’ – Sam George on decision to go to IMF

The lawmaker for the people of Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, has described as a good move, the government’s decision to go to the IMF for support.

According to him, the country’s economy has not been in shape for quite some periods.

The Akufo-Addo led government at the beginning of the year turned down many suggestions to seek financial support from the IMF, despite the adverse effects of Covid-19 on the economy.

They affirmed that implementing the much talked about Electronic Transfer Levy (e-levy) was an alternative to be exploited to solve the economic problems.

However, on Friday July 1, 2022, President Akufo-Addo directed the Finance Minister to begin official engagements with the International Monetary Fund.

It follows a conversation between the IMF boss, Kristalina Georgieva and President Akufo-Addo, conveying the government’s decision to engage the Fund.

But, for the outspoken politician, “common sense” has finally taken its course within the leadership of the ruling administration.

“We are officially going back to the IMF for a program. Finally, common sense is prevailing,” Sam George tweeted.

Similarly, the Communication Director of the opposition NDC, Sammy Gyamfi has described Akufo-Addo and his vice, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia as “dishonest” leaders.

In his view, the law of karma has disgraced the two leaders based on their promises.

“Posterity has a nice way of disgracing dishonest leaders. @NAkufoAddo and @MBawumia have been trapped by their own words. What a shame,” he added.
