The Secretariat of the National Labour Commission (NLC) has called on the teacher unions that embarked on the industrial action to rescind their decision and resume duties.
The National Labour Commission wants the unions to discontinue their strike before they proceed to engage the government in negotiations.
The unions including Ghana National Association of Teachers, National Association of Graduate Teachers, Teachers and Educational Workers Union, and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers withdrew their services nationwide on Monday, July 4, 2022.
Their concerns follow the failure of the government to pay a 20% Cost of Living Allowance(COLA) to them.
But in a letter addressed to stakeholders among whom are the Minister of Employment and Labor Relations, the Ministry of Education and Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, the NLC said, “You are hereby requested to engage the aggrieved Teacher Unions immediately upon receipt of this correspondence to negotiate settlement of their grievance(s) within seven (7) days and furnish
the Commission with a Report upon completion.
“With this intervention, we urge the teacher unions to rescind the decision and discontinue the strike action to pave way for the process of engagement to ensue.”
