President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has offered his condolences to King Charles, the bereaved royal family and the entire United Kingdom following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

In a series of tweets, President Akufo-Addo eulogised the monarch noting the ‘indelible mark’ she left behind.

Queen Elizabeth II UK’s longest-serving monarch died at age 96

According to him, “the Ghanaian people have very fond memories of the two visits she made to Ghana during her reign, and on both occasions, we remember the friendliness, elegance, style and sheer joy she brought to the performance of her duties”.

President Akufo-Addo also alluded to the key role she played in transforming the Commonwealth of Nations and steering it to pay greater attention to “our shared values and better governance”.

He was however regretful about her inspiring presence, her calm, steadiness and above all, her great love and belief in the highest purpose of the Commonwealth of Nations and its capacity to be a force for good which will all be missed.

On behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, I extend deepest condolences to the new British monarch, King Charles III, the @RoyalFamily, the Prime Minister, and the Government and people of Great Britain on the death, today, of HM Queen Elizabeth II 1/7 pic.twitter.com/Y7fFKxwCR4
