A fraud and security consultant, Richard Kumadoe, has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Akuffo Dampare, to institute a thorough investigation into the recent security situation in the Ada West Districts.
His call comes on the back of a recent attack on the people of Kablevu and the constant clashes happening in the area after the government released the Songor Lagoon to a private salt mining company, Electrochem Ghana Limited.
Mr. Kumadoe has condemned the happenings in several communities in the Ada West Districts and called on the IGP to as a matter of agency investigate the matter.
He criticised the mode of professional policing going on in the enclave which has caused the people to lose trust in the district police.
Speaking to Radio Ada about the fresh clashes which occurred in Kablevu on Thursday, September 8, 2022, Mr. Kumadoe attributed the blood shedding in the district in connection with the leasing of the songor lagoon.
He further urged the media to come to the aid of the people by focusing their editorial lenses on activities happening in the district.
In November 2020, the government of Ghana leased the lagoon to a private company (Electrochem Ghana Ltd) a subsidiary of the McDan group of companies headed by the businessman Daniel McKorley.
The communities around the resource have since objected to the privatisation of the whole resource and have organised numerous demonstrations to express their dissatisfaction and called on the government to adhere to the original master plan for the resource developed some years back with the input of the communities.
The communities fear losing their resource and their major means of livelihood to a private entity.
This is because the songor lagoon has been the main source of livelihood for the people in the district for over a century. The people of Ada also have a religious attachment to the resource which also serves as a deity (Yomo).
They also fear losing their lands and deities to the company and this has heightened tension between the communities and staff of the private company leading to several clashes and bloodshed.
