Galamsey: NDC gov’t will prosecute Wontumi, Charles Bissue – Sammy Gyamfi

Communications Director for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has said the next NDC government will prosecute bigwigs of the ruling NPP government engaged in illegal mining.
According to him, some influential person’s within the NPP such as Bernard Antwi Bosiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, Ekow Awusi, and Charles Bissue among others are involved in the illegal mining practices destroying forest reserves, farmlands, and water bodies.
Sammy Gyamfi, stated that the opposition party has enough evidence about the aforementioned individuals and will ensure they are investigated and made to face the full rigors of the law.

He made the declaration on Thursday, October 6, 2022, when he was addressing a press conference in Accra over the government’s fight against illegal mining (Galamsey).

“The saddest day in my life will be the day NDC fails to prosecute Chairman Wontumi, Ekow Awusi, and Charles Bissue for engaging in mining without a permit.

“We have enough visual evidence to prosecute these people and all the key members of the NPP who are actively engaged in the illegal menace,” he reiterated.

The legal practitioner also described President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s renewed commitment to fight the galamsey menace as a “mirage, scam and a lost battle.”

The outspoken politician who explained that NDC is not against mining in the country underscored that the government’s score on the fight against illegal mining is an unmitigated disaster.

However, he emphasied that the opposition party is only against illegal mining in water bodies and forest reserves.

The NDC thus called on the government to drastically deal with the people involved in such illegal activities.
