Professor Seidu Al-Hassan inducted as new Vice Chancellor of UDS

The University for Development Studies (UDS) has formally inducted Professor Seidu Al-Hassana into office as its new Vice-Chancellor with a call on the university to bring innovative programmes and policies to meet an emerging high level of development in the country.

The induction took place him on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at Tamale Campus, Dungu.

Professor Seidu Al-Hassan took over from the immediate past Vice-Chancellor Professor Gabriel Ayum Teye to becoming the 5th Vice-Chancellor to lead the University for Development Studies.

Speaking at the induction ceremony, Prof. Seidu Al-Hassan commended the immediate past Vice Chancellor for his outstanding work and added that his successor demonstrated his commitment to the development and expansion of human capital within the institution.

He also assured that his tenure will carry out the unfinished work of the former administration in promoting the expansion of the institution.

Prof. Seidu Al-Hassan thus called for support from all stakeholders towards fulfilling the mission and vision of the founding fathers 

noting that past leaders of the institution laid a solid foundation for the growth of the university.

“I am pleased to be part of people who will be building on the foundation laid by my predecessors.”

He stated that his vision was to work towards transforming UDS into a modern and technological and developmental university and explained that the university was capable of doing so.

“There is an emerging trend and a global systemic shift towards the concept of developmental Universities. The concept of Developmental Universities within the higher education landscape is therefore not new” he said.

Prof. Seidu Al-Hassan also pledged his administration is committed to resource academic and non-academic staff as well as students to enable them undertake relevant research.

He believes this will make way to demand of them enhanced productivity and ensure translations of research findings to solve problems that confront Ghana and the rest of mankind.

On his part, the Chairman of Governing Council, Prof. Wayo Seini urged the new Vice-Chancellor and his administration not to fall into the trap of denigrating the work of the previous administration since that would not help in the development of the university.

Ghana’s Vice President Dr. Alhaji Bawumia who graced the occasion as part of the invited special guests underscored the need for tertiary institutions in the country to put in place strategies needed to address the challenges within the education sector.

He stated that the emergence of the recent happenings in the world had brought to the fore, the need to have the right content for education, the right human resources, and the right leadership to navigate the challenges of the time.

He commended and urged the management of UDS to continue to put in place proactive measures to ensure peace and security on campus.
