Teacher trainees at all Colleges of Education in the country beginning Monday, November 7, 2022, will be expected to feed themselves all things being equal.

This development comes after the National Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) wrote to the Education Ministry to seek the permission for teacher trainees to start to fend for themselves.

In a statement dated Monday, 0ctober 31, 2022, PRINCOF cited that the current market trends, coupled with indebtedness to suppliers, is making it unbearable for the Colleges to provide three-square meals for the trainees as required.

“I write on behalf of the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF),to seek your approval for Principals to ask students to fend for themselves effective Monday November.

“A request for an upward review of the feeding grant paid to Principals has not been approved, and it has therefore become increasingly difficult for Principals to continue to provide three meals a day to students at Six Cedis, Fifty Pesewas (C6.50).

“In the light of the above, it is the wish of PRINCOF to be given permission to ask students to start fending for themselves,” PRINCOF said in the statement signed by Dr Harriet Naki Amui, the Executive Secretary.

The steps, it noted is a way “to ensure that the already stretched academic year is not disrupted,” and thus want the permission to be granted for implementation from Monday, November 7.
