A Former Finance Minister under the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Kwabena Duffuor has officially declared his intention to contest the flagbearership position of the party going into the 2024 general election.
He officially made the announcement Thursday, November 3, 2022, via his Facebook page.
“Today, I officially announce my intention to contest for the flagbearership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) anytime the party opens nominations,” he noted.
The former Governor of the Bank of Ghana also indicated that he would offer everything under his strength and capabilities to lead the party for the next four years when given the mandate.
“I will offer myself once again to serve the land of my birth with humility and sacrifice when given the chance to do so,” he declared.
Prior to his declaration, Dr Kwabena Duffuor introduced an initiative known as the Ahotor project to assist the grassroots of the party. Through that, he resourced some constituencies of the party with business operations as a way of fortifying the base of the party.
Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, an economist, served as the finance minister under the late President John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills from 2009 and held the same position under former president John Dramani Mahama to 2013.
As it stands, he becomes the second person to declare and announced his stance for the flagbearership after former Mayor of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Kojo Bonsu.
However, despite the claims that former president John Dramani Mahama who led the party to the 2022 general election would contest for the flagbearership position, he is yet to announce his decision.
