The opposition Members of Parliament have said that they will be in the House today, Thursday, November 24, to witness the Finance Minister’s presentation of the 2023 budget.

This came after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership ordered their caucus members to rescind their decision to boycott Mr Ofori-Atta if he should read the budget to the House.

According to the Minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu, they are attending the meeting for the budget presentation because it does not affect the 8-member committee’s inquiry into the Finance Minister’s conduct as a result of the accusations levelled against him.

“While we remain committed to seeing through the process to censure the Finance Minister, we are mindful of our duty to carry out oversight on the Executive and preserve the interest of the Ghanaian people whose livelihoods the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration has severely undermined through mismanagement of the economy,” a portion of the statement said.

Meanwhile, in a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry of Finance stated that the 2023 budget statement would include the government’s plans to rebuild and stabilize the macroeconomic environment, foster resilience, and encourage inclusive growth and value creation.

It will also include updates on Ghana’s engagement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a support program, the country’s year-to-date macro-fiscal performance, the You-Start initiative under the Ghana CARES programme, strategies for addressing climate change, fiscal measures, and debt management techniques, all of which are intended to ensure fiscal and debt sustainability and foster growth.
