A 31-year-old mobile money vendor in the Gomoa East District of the Central region has narrowly escaped death after an armed robbery attack.
The incident, which is reported to have occurred at Gomoa Akoti saw the vendor, Ebenezer Amoquandoh shot in the left thigh.
According to the victim of the attack, the armed men three in number made several attempts to collect an amount of GH¢30,000 from him which he resisted until he was shot the thigh.
“After the evening’s football game and I was returning home, I saw the beam of a torchlight under the tree closest to the school junction. I heard a gunshot afterwards and everyone around the area scattered.
“I then heard a voice that demanded that I hand over my bag. I couldn’t give them the bag immediately because it was stuck around my neck. That was when I heard the second shot but it was on my thighs,” Mr Ebenezer Amoquandoh said to journalists.
He added that while they still waited to take the bag one of them also struck his head with a weapon, resulting in a cut.
The perpetrators of the crime are currently at large, having made away with the said amount.
Mr Amoquandoh has been rushed to the Winneba Trauma and Specialized Hospital and has been duly treated and discharged.
Meanwhile, the Gomoa Ojobi District Police has launched an investigation into the robbery incident to arrest the criminals.
