St. John’s Grammar: School land will not be used for market – JOSA President

President of the Old Students Association of St. John’s Grammar School (JOSA) has assured that the school’s land would not be used as a market place.

According to the President of JOSA, Rev. Louis Hiagbe, he has received favourable responses from stakeholders after meeting with them.

This follows reports that the Ga North Municipal Assembly has planned to establish a market behind the green belt stretching from the school’s new dining hall to behind the girls dormitory to the Mile 7 area.

Some alumni of the school and other members of the public expressed concern about the impact of such a decision on teaching and learning.

In view of the above the National Executive Committee (NEC) of JOSA, the old students association, wrote to the Regional Minister, the Ga North MCE and other stakeholders to intervene in the development.

At a recent donation exercise to the school on Friday, December 9, 2022, Rev. Louis Hiagbe told angelonline.com.gh that the Regional Minister has acknowledged their petition and would meet with them later since he was on a national assignment at the time.

The JOSA President however noted that a committee that was set up has met with the Headmaster of the school and the Member of Parliament for Ga North and they have given positive remarks which indicate that the market would not be sited in the school.

He argued that there are many things that encourage teaching and learning and siting a market in the middle of a school is not one of them.

“So we had a meeting and a committee was formed by the old students and we met the headmaster, the MP for GA North. Unfortunately, the regional minister was on national assignment as well as the MCE.

“And so we had an initial deliberation and then we agreed to do a follow up meeting when the regional minister is back and then the municipal assembly director too, “he enlightened.

In a bid for broader consultation, a committee was therefore formed and incudes the CoE, NEC, JOSA Central Committee (JCC) members, and other JOSA members in high positions.
