Members of the Aggrieved NaBCo Trainees Association have petitioned parliament over their nine-month unpaid allowance leaving them poverty-stricken.
The trainees noted that the government owed them 9 months unpaid salaries starting from November 2021 and other outstanding ones since 2019.
In the petition dated Tuesday, December 13, 2022, and signed by the convener of the Association, David Peterson, said, they have on several occasions taken steps to get their arrears settled but has yielded no results.
On this note they want the NaBCo Secretariat through Parliament to track all their arrears payments before Sunday, December 25, because the situation has worsened their economic plight rendering them highly indebted and handicapped.
According to them, the NaBCo Secretariat “convinced us to believe that the problem of irregular payment (arrears) and NaBCo trainees not validated for payment was a result of oversight and network challenges beyond their control.”
“The leadership of Aggrieved NaBCo Trainees are appealing to you, to impress on the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament as a matter of urgency to order the minister of finance and economic planning before 25th December 2022 to pay NABCO trainees 9 months arrears stipends and other outstanding arrears that have engulfed the NABCO scheme since the year 2019,” the petitioned contains.
