Effective Monday, December 19, 2022, transport fares will be reduced by 15.3%, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union announced on Friday.

This decision follows the series of negotiations that have gone on between the transport ministry and transport operators to lower fare prices for mutual benefit.

It comes as a result of the decline in the prices of petroleum products on the market.

Therefore, the stakeholders found it necessary to consider the review of the fares in line with the administrative instrument.

It a statement, the GPRTU said “on Saturday, October 29, 19 per cent upward adjustment in public transport fares took effect after intense recognitions with stakeholders”.

“With recent reductions in the petroleum products, it became necessary to engage stakeholders to give consideration to a review of the fares in line with Administrative Instrument. Consequently, series of negotiation meetings were held with stakeholders to agree on an acceptable level of fare reduction commensurate with the current fuel prices”.
