Francis Addai-Nimoh, a flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) believes he has what it takes to lead the ruling government into the 2024 general election.

The former Member of Parliament (MP) for Mampong Constituency in the Ashanti Region said his vast experience in the political cycles makes him the sure bet for the NPP.

He made the declaration on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at the Osu Presby Hall in Accra when he officially announced his candidacy for the NPP flagbearership race.

According to Francis Addai-Nimoh the ruling party needs a new face of his calibre for the party’s quest to break the eight-year term in 2024.

“I am humbled that my astute team has assessed my qualifications and motivations using some three criteria. Driven by my personal convictions, I am confident that my professional background and values can be useful in shaping the necessary initiatives that will significantly improve our country and coupled with the clarion call I have been receiving over these last years from our party members, rank and file and from wide consultations with elders of the party.

“I, Addai-Nimoh, I have thereby decided and [I’m] officially announcing my candidacy to be elected as the next flagbearer of the NPP,” he declared.

To him, the circumstances of the NPP require a new face as the next presidential candidate, and noted he is the “new face to win the 2023 flagbearer elections”.

“A new face must have an unblemished character. A face that represents a genuine movement that provides hope to those members who may have been disgruntled,” he added.

Mr Addai-Nimoh who contested in the NPP’s presidential primaries in 2014 and lost promised to bring unity and consolidate the performance of the current NPP-led government.

He is expected to face stiffer opposition from the immediate past Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyerematen who resigned in January to pursue his presidential ambition.

Agric Minister Owusu Afritie Akoto who also followed suit by resigning from his post, and Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, have all declared their bids for the flagbearer slot.
