The Upper East Regional Co-ordinating Council (REGSEC) has advised the factions involved in the Bawku conflict, against engaging military personnel in a combat.
The call comes on the back of allegations made by some individuals in the Bawku enclave Wednesday that, some military officers and killed some seven persons following the recent clashes there.
However, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in a statement debunked the accusations.
It said in a release that the military only engaged a group of armed men and neutralized six of them.
The REGSEC, while calling on the people of Bawku to remain calm as it works to bring lasting peace to Bawku and its environs, urged the residents to adhere to “all the security measures put in place by REGSEC.”
“Again, REGSEC appeals to both factions to desist from any attempt to engage the military in combat, since that will be catastrophic on the part of the civilians.
“REGSEC calls on the people of Bawku to remain calm as it works to bring lasting peace to Bawku. REGSEC therefore admonishes the people of Bawku to stay calm as we go through the processes,” REGSEC said in a statement following its emergency meeting held on Thursday, February 7, 2023, to review the security situation in Bawku.
