The Ministry of Finance has assured all individual bondholders who have declined to participate in the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) that their wish would be honoured.
The assurance was given in a statement issued by the Government of Ghana on February 14, 2023, which sought to appreciate the participation of 80% eligible bonds in the DDEP.
According to the Government, the programme, from its inception, has been voluntary and has maintained that “individual bondholders are free not to participate”.
“Thus, the right of individuals to self-exempt was never in doubt,” the statement reiterated.
Accordingly, all the individual bondholders who did not participate in the programme would have their “coupon payments and maturing principals” honoured in line with the Government’s fiscal commitments.
