Former President John Dramani Mahama has promised to scrap ex-gratia payments to the Executive if he is re-elected in 2024.
According to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party bigwig who was speaking at the launch of his campaign on Thursday, March 2, 2023, “the necessary constitutional steps to do this will start in earnest in 2025”.
The policy action, he noted, will not be limited to the Executive arm, but his management will also “persuade members of the other arms of government to accept its removal”.
Other things he promised to do include addressing issues about the exercise of powers of the president, proper separation of powers, strengthening of Parliament, restoring the independence of the judiciary, restoring trust in independent and quasi-state institutions, and depoliticizing them.
“These will take the center stage of the new administration,” the presidential hopeful assured.
The campaign dubbed “Building the Ghana we want together” took place at the Cedi Auditorium of the University of Health and Allied Sciences in Ho, Volta Region, on Thursday, March 2, 2023.
