Heads of second Cycle Institutions across the country have been cautioned by the Education Ministry to desist from preventing first-year students from enrollment due to their inability to procure expected items on their prospectus.
This, according to the Minister for Education Dr Yaw Adutwum, is to ensure that every qualified student is not denied access to education and at large the free education policy by the government.
He gave the caution over the weekend when he addressed members of the Conference of Assisted Senior High Schools (CHASS) and Principals of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in Kumasi.
He said, “there is no way any student should be turned away from school because the parents have not been able to procure some items on the school’s prospectus, at least, let them come to the school and the rest could be procured with some time.”
The education minister also noted that the addition of many other unapproved items on the school’s prospectus leads to the bloating of the prospectus for first-year students.
Dr Adutwum further advised all heads of second-cycle schools in the country to abstain from activities that have the potential to discourage or prevent students from having access to education in the country.
He concluded by charging them to let it be their goal to do everything possible to create an enabling environment for students to study rather than inculcating acts to distract them from their studies.
