To adequately prepare students for the job market, the Regional Maritime University’s School of Graduate Studies in conjunction with its Research and Innovation Unit will on Friday May 19, 2023 h,old an academic seminar to expose students to job seeking approaches.

The seminar is expected to identify gaps in the curricula of the school and fashion out ways to bridge this gap, inform participants especially students to adequately prepare towards job seeking requirements and also in the long run provide qualified and suitable personnel for recruitment and effective job delivery.

Dr. Gabriel S. Akakpo, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies revealed this in an interview yesterday at his office in Accra.

According to him, the colloquium which is on the theme: “the job seekers paradox of experience before employment: what employers need and what should job seekers provide” would encourage in-depth interaction with industry players to understand the employment requirements for graduates.

“The University from this point can infuse results from the outcome of these deliberations to consider setting up a center for preparing upcoming graduates on job requirements and its appropriate conducts, a move that would properly position students to easily access jobs and also make them sought-after for the job market”. Dr. Akakpo espoused.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr. Jethro W. Brooks Jr. holds the view that close collaborations between the academia and industry is essential to avoid students coming out as misfits for roles in their job market.

He reached out to the science specific group of students to venture into the marine and maritime engineering programmes adding that it is a lucrative area with high prospects and outstanding experiences.
