We’re leaving no stone unturned for a historic GPL title – Medeama supporters chair

Supporters’ leadership of Ghana Premier League leaders, Medeama SC, has asserted that they are leaving no stone unturned as they prepare to climax their seasonal long-run campaign with a historic league title.

The Tarkwa-based premier league side are on the verge of making history as they are just a point away from winning their first-ever Ghana Premier League title.

In their week 33 fixture against Samartex FC on June 4, 2023, the ‘Yellow and Mauve’ club needed a win to seal the title, but a stubborn Samartex side exhibited a very resilient performance to deny the league leaders a title celebration at Samraboi with a 0-0 scoreline.

However, despite last weekend’s draw, Medeama’s chance of securing the championship is still on course as they are in a favourable position to win the title when they play host to Tamale City at the Akoon Park in Tarkwa.

When the team achieves the feat, they will become the first team from the Western region since Sekondi Hasaacas in 1978 to win the converted trophy.

Meanwhile, Tamale City on the other hand battles for relegation and needs nothing but a win to stay in the top-flight league on the final day of the season.

Speaking on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, to Angelonline.com.gh Chairman of Medeama supporters Augustine Ampong popularly known as Wo Damu True expressed the readiness of the supporters’ front for the-all-important fixture on Sunday, to make the dream of the Tarkwa community a reality.

He added that though they would not underestimate Tamale City, they will ‘pull out all the stops’ and beat their opponents, asserting that, Akoon Park will be made a fortress for the Tamale-based side.

Asked if the supporters front is optimistic of writing a remarkable story in the club’s history Mr Ampong affirmed that, team Medeama “is more than determined and fully focused” come Sunday.

According to the supporter’s chairman, some opportunities present themselves once in a lifetime, therefore they will “leave no stone unturned” to grab it.

He quizzed, “why should we [Medeama SC] allow this opportunity to elude us knowing that it has been 45 years now since a team from the western region won a major title,” he told Samuel Sackey.

He used the platform and called on the supporters, the people of Tarkwa, and indigenes of the Western region – both within and outside the area to throng the Akoon Park to its capacity on the matchday, to champion the achievement of the ‘Never Give Up’ club.

Medeama Sporting Club, formerly known as Kessben F.C., based in Tarkwa, Western Region, is owned by Moses Armah, a business mogul following purchasing of the defunct Kessben FC in 2010.

Currently, the team plays their home matches at Akoon Park, in the Akoon community, a suburb of Tarkwa, due to the reconstruction of the ongoing TNA park.

Having won two FA Cup titles – 2013, 2015 and the 2015 Ghana Super Cup trophy they have competed in the CAF Confederation Cup twice in 2014 and 2016 respectively.
