Head Coach of Ghana’s senior national team, Chris Hughton, has argued that he remains the right man for the Black Stars’ coaching job.
According to the technical head of the West African powerhouse, he remains the sure bet to lead Ghana to the promised land despite the inconsistencies performance-wise.
Ghana suffered a back-to-back defeat in the October international break games within the space of three days to Mexico and the United States of America.
They succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to Mexico – the CONCACAF champions at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on Sunday before a humiliating 4-0 loss in the hands of the US men’s national team at the Geodis Stadium – Nashville on Wednesday dawn.
Speaking at the post-match conference, the former Brighton and Hove Albion and Newcastle United manager maintained he is the perfect coach capacitated to lead the team.
“If you ask me if I feel like I’m the right person for this job, the answer is yes,” Chris Hughton indicated.
He also vowed to continue working hard to ensure the team rediscovers its winning form before the start of the 2023 African Cup of Nations to be staged in Ivory Coast next year January.
“There are some aspects of the game that have been okay. We have qualified for AFCON, and we did enough to win the group not just to qualify and that’s the balance.
“The balances are from there, we need to develop more because we are going to a tough AFCON tournament in January, and we need to develop. I will continue to work hard as I can to pick the right squad, pick the right tactics to win the games we need to win to do well,” he added.
Black Star’s immediate attention will be on the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar and Comoros in November before the 2023 AFCON.
The 64-year-old coach has been at the helm of affairs of the Black Stars following the resignation of Otto Addo after the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Until then, he was the technical advisor to Otto Addo’s technical team.
Mr Hughton’s stats now stand at two defeats, and five wins in seven matches since he took charge of his first game in March 2023.
