A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Ghana Electrical Contractors Association (GECA) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to offer periodic training for professionals in the electrical construction space.

The MoU which was signed at the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited Training School in Tema is to help grow the electrical industry in Ghana.

It is expected that the training will help curb some of the inefficiencies in the system, reduce system losses, enhance productivity, increase revenue for ECG and ultimately ensure electrical safety and customer satisfaction.

The GECA President, Awal Mohammed Sakib emphasised that the training is essential for the professional development of electrical contractors in Ghana who are the third-party contractors for ECG hence going through the periodic training will be abreast of the operational standards of ECG.

” It has become necessary for the association to take measures to ensure that power distribution infrastructure is designed to standards and presents no danger to contractors. Electrical contractors engaged by ECG need to stay up to date with the cutting-edge advancements in the field, while ensuring they are adhering to regulations for safe installations, ” Mr. Awal Sakib stated.

He further urged practitioners and electrical contractors to avail themselves for the ECG Technical Training Programme which is going to be a criterion for licenses acquisition and renewal.

Director of ECG Training Centre in Tema, Ing. Godfred Mensah on his part mentioned that safety on the field of work remains paramount therefore they will continue to build the competence of stakeholders and help them update their practical knowledge.

Ing. Mensah indicated that the electrical contractors are grown up and already experienced so though the training is intense it will not take much of their time hence the electrical contractors should embrace the initiative to help sanitize the electrical industry.
