The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been advised to be circumspect in choosing candidates as their running mates for their respective flagbearers for the 2024 election.
Lawyer Twum-Barimah, who offered the piece of advice stated that factors to be considered for choosing running mates should have in-depth reasoning.
The Legal Practitioner who is a National Communications Team Member of the NDC observed that taking account of individuals with distinct careers in public service is prudent in appointing running mates.
“When choosing a running mate, you have to contemplate if the person you are going in for holds a distinctive career in public service. Again, you have to consider his or her political journey.
“Consider his foundation on the connection with the grassroots and also look at the person’s background of shaping policies and development,” he counseled.
Lawyer Twum-Barimah schooled further that “when you are done, then you weigh up the person’s background if he has been in government before [Governmental Management].”
He gave the public education on Angel Morning Show on Thursday, November 30, 2023, when outlining what he labeled as the four key areas to be considered by political parties when choosing running mates.
Speaking further, he said, that the qualifications and attributes of potential running mates amid exceptional leadership skills are significant to the success of every political party.
“As a running mate, policy expectation and innovations should be factored because the government is about policy and innovation as the individual must possess traits of deep thinking beyond his boss to bring on board new ideas,” he added.
Mr Barimah urged the presidential candidates of the parties to factor in the crowd moving abilities of their prospective running mates to enhance the parties’ elections outcomes through inclusiveness.
