The facility manager in-charge of the Kobeng Health Center and Nkawie Government Hospital in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipal of the Ashanti region has raised concerns about the rate of HIV/AIDS infections among the youth in the area.
According to Dr. Emmanuel Boamah, 70% out of the 1,682 persons infected with the disease are of youthful age. Additional statistics from the two hospitals also indicate that 205 out of the 285 new infections are also youth.
He was worried that the disease could spread fast in the municipality since the youth are sexually active and most of them have multiple sex partners.
Mr Boamah stressed that the municipality will be badly affected in the near future if the rate of infection is not checked.
He thus cautioned the youth to abstain from early sex, stick to one partner and make use of protective measures during sex.
Victims of the HIV disease were also counseled to seek early medical treatment as this can contribute to the reduction of the spread of the disease.
